No. It asks who is going and what to share. Private details like access codes and the price start unshared.

Does everyone need to connect a calendar?

No. Dates reach the calendars people chose to connect; everyone else sees them in the chat and the app.

What happens when someone leaves the trip?

They stop receiving new details. What they already saw stays with them.
